Packing & Moving Smart Tips
Start Packing Early:
- Make sure your cartons are of a uniform size and shape, as they are easier to carry and stack. Fill each box completely!
- For boxes or other containers:
1) List contents.
2) Assign a number.
3) Indicate the room each box will eventually go to.
- Prepare a list of all box numbers and contents for reference at a later date.
- Seal all boxes with packing tape.
- Wrap dishes and glasses in clean newsprint or packing paper and pack in sturdy boxes.
- Do not pack fragile items and heavy items in the same box.
- Wrap pictures and mirrors in cardboard and mark them fragile.
- Furniture with drawers can be used to store linens, towels and other non-breakable items during storage.
- Keep clothing in dresser drawers, that way you won't need extra cartons.
- Garden tools can be stored in garbage cans.
- Don't move what you don't need! Donate items to Goodwill, Salvation Army or other charities for others to use. It will make you feel good too!
Moving Items:
- Bubble Pack - will protect your fragile items. A little protection now goes a long way later.
- Tape - secures all your boxes so they won't open while you're loading, moving or unloading.
- Rope - ties down heavy objects such as pianos, couches and appliances. Also use rope to tie off the back of your load.
- Mattress and Sofa/Chair covers - Keep your furniture fresh and clean during the move and while in storage.
- Proper Packing Boxes - important for the success of any move. In fact, we encourage you to buy more than you need, either new or used. Our policy is, if you don't use it we will happily buy it back! Calculate how many boxes you need with our
